ANNUAL MASTER THESIS CONFERENCE
FOR IFB UG&MUG STUDENTS AND INVITED GUESTS

ORGANISED BY THE STUDENTS’ COUNCIL AND AUTHORITIES OF INTERCOLLEGIATE FACULTY OF BIOTECHNOLOGY OF THE UNIVERSITY OF GDAŃSK AND MEDICAL UNIVERSITY OF GDAŃSK

HONORARY SPEAKER

Dr habil. Anna Supernat
„From Blood to Bytes: Tracking Ovarian Cancer with Liquid Biopsies and AI”

Head of the Center of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics
Medical University of Gdańsk, Poland

Group Leader at the Laboratory of Translational Oncology
Medical University of Gdańsk, Poland

Dr habil. Anna Supernat is a graduate of the Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology at the University of Gdańsk and the Medical University of Gdańsk, where she also completed her PhD in the Laboratory of Cell Biology. She pursued her postdoctoral training at the Cancer Re-search UK Cambridge Institute (University of Cambridge) in 2015–2016, and later spent time at Cancer Center Amsterdam (Amsterdam UMC) during a monthly research visit.

Anna’s main research focus is on liquid biopsies in ovarian cancer, aimed at improving diagno-stics and monitoring of disease progression. Her group uses both bulk and single-cell sequen-cing technologies and increasingly applies machine learning to make sense of complex data-sets. This work is now expanding into the exciting field of multiomics, with the goal of captu-ring a more complete picture of cancer biology. She collaborates closely with teams at the University of Utah (USA) and Cancer Center Amsterdam (Netherlands).

She has served as an expert for the National Centre for Research and Development and previously worked as a genetic analyst at MNM Diagnostics Ltd. Anna is a recipient of several national awards and fellowships, including the Foundation for Polish Science’s START scholars-hip, the Darboven Idee Grant, the Minister of Science and Higher Education Scholarship, and the POMOST and Innodoktorant programs. She also participated in the EU-funded EIT HEI “in-novAId” consortium, which focused on building entrepreneurial skills in digital medicine.

Anna is the co-author of 33 peer-reviewed scientific publications. Outside of academia, she’s the proud mother of three fantastic sons and has a passion for adventures—both in science and life.

PRESENTATIONS BY YOUNG RESEARCHERS

Public presentation of the results of the master’s thesis is a key element of the graduation process
at the Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology of the University of Gdańsk and Medical University of Gdańsk (IFB).

From the beginning of the Faculty, presentations were held as a part of the International Student Scientific Conference (ISSC) organised by the Medical University of Gdańsk, and since 2009 as a part of the Biotechnology Students’ Conference.

The conference is organised by the Students’ Council of the IFB together with the Faculty Authorities.
The conference is in English and is also attended by foreign Erasmus students carrying out their master’s theses at our Faculty.
